Gallery is back!

The Gallery is finally back, after surviving a hard drive failure. While we were away on vacation in Hilton Head, SC, our home server's hard drive decided to fail in a catastrophic manner. I got home, heard "click click click," and knew that the drive was in serious trouble. We have recovered all of the photos, but weren't able to recover the Gallery database itself. We'll be going back and adding captions, and that kind of stuff. If you had registered for an account on the Gallery, please re-do the registration, because all of that information was lost as well. One day soon, we'll get around to uploading the photos we've been saving since the hard drive died.

Incidentally, I took the opportunity, since I was replacing a hard drive, to rearrange some things relating to our backups. The backups now all write to the largest hard drive I have, and I have changed tools for backing up my Linux server: rdiff-backup uses rsync to do backups, and also saves reverse diffs so that you get an online, up-to-date copy as of the latest backup, plus the capability to restore any previous versions of your files. It's extremely simple to use, and does a great job.
